Overview

Designed and built a bicycle-mounted flywheel system to capture braking energy and reuse it for acceleration.

My Role

  • Modeled the bike frame in CAD to establish packaging constraints and size the flywheel.
  • Designed the steel flywheel, aluminum mount and gears, clamping blocks, and rotating clutch mechanism.
  • Built the system using sourced bicycle components and repurposed robotics hardware.
  • Iterated the clutch geometry and mounting layout to address friction, alignment, and force-transfer issues.
